_*Changes and update to the current schedule situation and plans for
Schedule 120*_

Dear TRIUMF Users, Experimenters, Operators and Staff,

As you know, we are currently repairing Target Module 1 (TM1) for the
ISAC operation, which will be tested for full functionality in August.
The outcome of these tests will determine the remainder of the ISAC
schedule but has also impact on the cyclotron schedule, in particular
for the long maintenance period (mini shutdown) and the start date of
Schedule 120 after this mini shutdown.

The TM1 module tests are scheduled for August 11 & 12 and after these
tests we will have more clarity for the remainder of the schedule.
However, the plans are as follows:
• TM1 test successful: we will run September 1 - 25 TM1 with a UCx low
power (2muA) target, then go into ISAC shutdown (September 26 – October
19).
• TM1 test unsuccessful: we will extend the current TM4 run until
September 9 and go into ISAC shutdown (September 10 - October 5).

The cyclotron mini shutdown will in any case be from September 26 - 29.
There will be low-intensity running and cool down period from September
14 – 25.

For the current meson-hall shutdown schedule:
We have met major milestones, such as the vacuum repair of T2-M9 joint
with Indium-seal, but also have encountered some unanticipated technical
challenges. However, we have made a commitment to meet the August 19
beam production milestone (with discretionary time starting August 16),
and we are working hard to achieve this.

For Schedule 120:
The cyclotron mini shutdown will end September 29 and beam production
will start September 30, with first scheduled experiments October 5. The
cyclotron will run until December 23 with a low intensity running and
cool down period from December 19.

The ISAC shutdown period will depend on the tests and performance of TM1
(tests August 11 & 12), and the remainder of the schedule will then
depend on the availability of TM1.

If TM1 is operational we will consider running three targets: For now we
are planning with the following combinations: a SiC-FEBIAD, a
TaC-surface/laser, and either a 10muA UCx target with surface/laser
source (pending license from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission for
the 10muA target operation) or as a fall-back option a 2muA UCx target
with a surface source.

If TM1 is not operational we are considering starting with a UCx low
power (2muA) target, then a SiC-FEBIAD and then either a 10muA UCx
target with surface/laser source (pending license from the Canadian
Nuclear Safety Commission for the 10muA target operation) or as
fall-back option a 2muA UCx target with a surface source. However, we
will only be able to run shorter periods due to the need to reuse the
same target module and the time requirements in between target-loads.

For ISAC, due to construction/excavation work for ARIEL there will be no
regular post-accelerated beam to ISAC-II October, November, and December
2011 due to anticipated vibrations. Test experiments and beam
development can be carried out, and no vibrational impact is expected
outside of regular working hours (hence from 5pm-7am). ISAC I operation
should not be affected. We will keep everyone informed as we learn more.

Best regards,
Jens Dilling
