Dear TRIUMF Users, Experimenters, Operators and Staff,

Due to reoccurring vacuum leak problems at the BL1A T2-M9 interface,
a decision has been made in collaboration between the Accelerator
Division and the Science Division, to blank-off this beamline. The
vacuum leak, caused by an indium seal, is at this point no longer
sustainable in terms of operation, even though we have added
substantial pumping over the long weekend. <br>
<br>
The blank-off procedure will commence today during the maintenance
day and is scheduled to be finished <st1:date year="2012" day="24"
month="10">October 24th, 2012</st1:date>. Beam is expected
restored back to the beamline on <st1:date year="2012" day="25"
month="10">October 25th, 2012</st1:date>. <br>

This blank-off has a number of consequences: <br>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family:Symbol;
mso-fareast-font-family:Symbol;mso-bidi-font-family:Symbol"><span
style="mso-list:Ignore"><span style="font:7.0pt "Times
New Roman""></span></span></span>During the blank-off
procedure there will be no beam to BL1A (hence no experiments
will be running on M9, M11, M13, M15, and M20, as well as
PIF/NIF) </li>
<li><span style="font-family:Symbol;
mso-fareast-font-family:Symbol;mso-bidi-font-family:Symbol"><span
style="mso-list:Ignore"><span style="font:7.0pt "Times
New Roman""></span></span></span>After the blank-off
there will be no beam available for experiments on M9. </li>
<li>The on-line Schedule 123 will reflect the time when no beam is
expected, and will continue with already scheduled activities
once beam is back. </li>
</ul>
<o:p></o:p>Due to this interruption of beam delivery to BL1A we are
considering an extension of the high intensity operation, which is
currently scheduled to end <st1:date year="2012" day="4" month="12">Dec
4 2012</st1:date>. We have to evaluate the impact on the shut down
schedule as well on effected users, before a final decision is made.
