<pre wrap="">Dear Users & Experimenters,
There have recently been revisions to two TRIUMF Safety Notes (TSN's), which include the information below.
Revisions to TSN 5.10 Fitted Personal Protective Equipment (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://documents.triumf.ca/docushare/dsweb/Services/Document-869">https://documents.triumf.ca/docushare/dsweb/Services/Document-869</a>) include definitions and responsibilities as well as protective footwear requirements. Supervisors and facility coordinators should consult the safety note for a full list of the hazards.
With regard to protective footwear the following are now in effect:
</pre>
<ol>
<li>Areas where safety shoes are mandatory such as machine shops,
have been posted at the entrance. DANGER: SAFETY SHOES REQUIRED
PAST THIS POINT</li>
<li>Hazards necessitating safety shoes can exist in other areas
such as accelerator vaults and experimental halls. If unsure
workers should check with their supervisor, the facility
coordinator or OH&S. <br>
</li>
<li>All other non-office work areas inside the fence require the
minimum footwear – that is a closed toe shoe with a low heel. <br>
</li>
</ol>
If safety shoes will be required for work in experimental halls,
visiting experimenters should come with protective footwear supplied
by their employer. <br>
<br>
Revisions to TSN 3.7 Work Permit System (<a
class="moz-txt-link-freetext"
href="https://documents.triumf.ca/docushare/dsweb/Services/Document-851">https://documents.triumf.ca/docushare/dsweb/Services/Document-851</a>)
include an updated definition of controlled work and clarification
of roles and responsibilities, in particular with regard to worker
qualification, and understanding/communication of hazards associated
with work being performed. <br>
<br>
Workers are reminded to initiate work permits with sufficient time
to allow hazards to be assessed. Work must not begin until the work
permit has been signed off and the pre-job briefing has been
completed with all workers. <br>
<br>
Supervisors and facility coordinators should familiarize themselves
with the changes to the above Safety Notes and communicate the
requirements with their workers and experimenters.<br>
<br>
These updated Safety Notes are attached for your ease of reference.<br>
<br>
All the best,<br>
Niki Martin<br>
