<p class="MsoPlainText">As reported earlier today, the TRIUMF site lost power. A contractor accidentally drilled into a high-voltage duct bank that serves power to the TRIUMF site. Both transformers were affected, knocking out power from accelerator systems
to site facilities. The contractor was not harmed, and at no time were the health and safety of our employees, visitors, or our neighbours put at risk. We will conduct a thorough investigation, but at present our focus is on safety and restoring power site-wide.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">Immediately following the incident, work was stopped and WorkSafeBC was notified and called to the site. Following WorkSafeBC procedures, a joint TRIUMF, UBC, and contractor team assessed the damage and began work to restore power.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">Efforts are underway to safely restore power as quickly as possible, with the goal to have power returned over the weekend. Meantime, TRIUMF operations are suspended. Notice will be sent after power is restored and when equipment loads
can be added. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">The safety of our employees, visitors, contractors, and neighbours is our number one priority. As a precaution, site access is restricted to personnel involved in restoration efforts. With the outage, there is no risk to our neighbours
in the surrounding area.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">We'll provide another email update when power is restored and access resumed.
