*Position****Description:*

TheDepartmentofRadiationOncologyattheUniversityofMarylandSchoolofMedicineisrecruitingforapost-doctoralfellowposition,tobeginasearlyasOctober2017,tocarryoutresearchanddevelopmentonaprototypePromptGammaImagingsystemforprotonradiotherapytobedevelopedandclinicallytestedattheMarylandProtonTreatmentCenter(MPTC).Thepost-doctoralfellowwill 

workaspartofanNIHfundedacademic-industrialresearchpartnershipprogram.The fellowwillbe partofadynamicteamofmedicalphysicists as well asnuclear scientist and
engineersonthedevelopmentandcharacterizationofaComptoncamerabasedpromptgammaimagingsystemtobeusedclinicallyforprotonbeamrangeverificationattheMPTC.ResearchwillincludeexperimentalanddevelopmentalworkattheMPTCaswellastravelforexperimentsattheNationalInstituteofStandardsandTechnology(NIST)andtheArmyResearchLaboratories.Opportunitiesforclinicaltrainingarepossibleforthepost-doctoralfellow.Itisexpectedthatthesuccessfulcandidatewillpublishtheirworkinreputedjournals.Theposition 

is for twoyears,with thepossibilityof extension foroneadditional year.


   Qualifications:

CandidatesforthispositionmusthaveaPh.D.inengineering,physics,medicalphysics,mathematics,oracloselyrelatedphysicalscience.Successfulapplicantsmustbehighlymotivated,independent,andmusthaveexperiencewithscientificcomputerprogramming(C/C++,Matlab,Python,ROOT,andLabview)tobeappliedtodataprocessingand 

statisticalimagereconstruction. ExperiencewithMonteCarlo (Geant4) modelingisaplus.


   Facilityand Equipment:

Thestate-of-the-artMarylandProtonTreatmentCenterbegantreatingpatientsin2016.TheMedicalPhysicsDivisioniscurrentlystaffedwith24PhDfacultyphysicists,17dosimetrists,and9post-doctoralfellowsandgraduatestudents.In 

addition to MPTC weprovideclinicalservicesattheUniversityofMarylandMedicalCenterandfourcommunitypracticecenters.  Our current clinical program
includesconformalradiotherapy,IMRT,cone-beamCT-guidedradiotherapy, stereotacticradiosurgery/radiotherapy,brachytherapyand proton radiotherapy.
