UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST OF SCOTLAND
School of Engineering and Computing
*EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS RESEARCH GROUP*
*Lecturer in Physics – Ref 15/152*
£40847 to £45954
Paisley Campus
The Experimental Nuclear Physics Research Group at the University of the
West
of Scotland has internationally recognized research programmes studying the
structure
and properties of exotic nuclei and in laser-induced nuclear physics. UWS
was one
of the founding members of the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance,
SUPA, which
is the pioneering research pooling initiative in Scotland. Along with
other Scottish
universities in SUPA2, we are presently developing SCAPA – the Scottish
Centre for
Plasma Based Accelerators, an innovative new facility in which we will
carry out
research in fundamental and applied nuclear physics and related areas. We
are
presently seeking to strengthen the group in this area with the appointment
of a
Lecturer in the Nuclear Physics Research Group.
The post-holder will be based at the Paisley Campus, and will contribute
effectively to
research, to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to
academic
administration.
A successful track record of research in experimental nuclear physics and a
strong
publication record are essential. The successful applicant will apply their
expertise to
the development and exploitation of SCAPA. In addition, they will
contribute to
nuclear-physics research within the group and develop and lead new
programmes
of research.
Informal enquires should be directed to Professor John F. Smith, Physics
Discipline
Group Leader and Head of the Nuclear Physics Research Group by telephone
to (+44) (0)141 848 3652 or by email to John . F . Smith at uws.ac.uk.
