Hi all,

Forwarded from Dan Lascar:

This Saturday, April 22 (Earth Day) across the continent and the world,
there will be a March for Science <https://www.marchforscience.com/>. The
largest will be in Washington, DC but there are satellite marches just
about everywhere else <https://www.marchforscience.com/satellite-marches/>.
Most pertinent are likely the marches in Vancouver
<https://www.facebook.com/groups/2240587519498815/> and Seattle
<https://www.marchforscienceseattle.org/> but check out if there’s a march
near wherever you are. I encourage all who receive this email to attend and
to forward it to your colleagues, friends, and family and get out on
Saturday.

Outside of our basic need as scientists to be employed and funded, there is
demonstrable harm if we are not listened to (or worse, silenced) by
governments. Canada recently came out of a period of science gaging just
<http://www.nature.com/news/nine-years-of-censorship-1.19842> as the US and
several other countries are descending into something similar. This is an
opportunity for all of us to show our support to the field to which we have
dedicated so much of our lives. We owe it to ourselves and our fields to
stand up to the cuts in funding, the ignoring of established fact, and the
undermining of our field.

I have never been in a position where I have been so moved to action but I
hope you will join me in this.

Thank you and a have a good week,

Dan
