Dear all,

Please read below for two postdoc position announcements, and one for PhD fellowships attached.

We’d appreciate that you forward this information to possible candidates.

Thank you!

************** Pristine Postdoc Position in Nice *************************

The Laboratoire Lagrange at OCA (Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur) calls for applications to a postdoctoral position in the field of Galactic archaeology, in the context of the Pristine survey, an international collaboration that focuses on mapping the metal-poor Milky Way. Based on a narrow-band photometric survey currently being conducted at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, soon to be complemented by systematic follow-up with the WEAVE spectroscopic survey, Pristine focuses on the search for the first stars and mapping out the (sub)structures of the Milky Way halo, and is supported by the ANR « Pristine » grant.

The successful applicant is expected to work with V. Hill, G. Kordopatis and M. Schultheis to optimize an analysis pipeline for WEAVE spectra of Pristine targets (stellar parameters and abundances), and on the science outcome of combining Pristine with Gaia DR2 for mapping the Milky-Way metallicity distributions across the different stellar populations.

Experience in observational stellar chemical analysis, Galactic physics, or Galactic dynamics will be favored, but all applicants with experience in related areas will be considered. Candidates with independent research programs are encouraged to apply.

The position is for at least 2 years. The start date is flexible but is expected to be before the end of 2019 . The offered remuneration (in the range 24,000-30,000€, scaling with experience), includes the French health care for the applicant and their family, together with at least 5 weeks paid annual leave. Funds for travel and research will be available, as well as easy access to computing facilities.

Applicants are requested to submit a CV, a list of publications, a description (3 pages) of past/future research and accomplishments together with 3 letters of reference to Vanessa.Hill at oca.eu<mailto:Vanessa.Hill at oca.eu> by January 7th, 2019.

************** Pristine Postdoc Position in Strasbourg *************************

The astronomical observatory of Strasbourg (Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg, ObAS) calls for applications to a postdoctoral position in the field of Galactic archaeology, in the context of the Pristine survey, an international collaboration that focuses on mapping the metal-poor Milky Way. Based on a narrow-band photometric survey currently being conducted at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, soon to be complemented by systematic follow-up with the WEAVE spectroscopic survey, Pristine focuses on the search for the first stars and mapping out the (sub)structures of the Milky Way halo.

The successful applicant is expected to work with N. Martin and R. Ibata, whose interests focus on the study of stellar structures in the Milky Way halo, combining the data from Pristine and the DR2 of the ESA/Gaia mission.

Experience in observational Galactic physics, Galactic dynamics, and/or stellar chemical analysis will be favored, but all applicants with experience in related areas will be considered. Candidates with independent research programs are encouraged to apply.

The position is for at least 2 years. The start date is flexible but is expected to be in the fall of 2019 at the latest. The offered remuneration (in the range 24,000-30,000€) includes the French health care for the applicant and their family, together with at least 5 weeks paid annual leave. Funds for travel and research will be available, as well as easy access to computing facilities.
