Dear grad students and postdocs,<br>

We are excited to inform you of the IsoSiM Program's first
annual <a
href="http://isosim.ubc.ca/content/isosim-summer-school-0"
moz-do-not-send="true">IsoSiM Summer School</a>, 22 June - 3
July in the TRIUMF Auditorium. The focus this year will be <b>effective
written and oral communication in science</b>. The school
will be held in four parts: <br>
<br>
- The workshop portion will be led by <a
href="http://www.principiae.be/" moz-do-not-send="true">Dr.
Jean-luc Doumont</a>, author of the Nature Series "English
Communication for scientists" and a lecturer with Stanford and
Harvard. He will provide lectures on writing and oral
presentations.<br>
<br>
- The workshop will be interleaved with group work. As part of
a small group, you will prepare a document to be constructively
critiqued by Dr. Doumont. (Meetings and organization will be
decided between you and your group members.)<br>
<br>
- Dr. Doumont will give a public lecture, open to all TRIUMF
staff, on "Structuring your research paper" Tuesday 30 June,
09-11h.<br>
<br>
- The fourth portion and final day will focus on careers in
industry, with IsoSiM industrial partners. Each representatives
will give a brief overview of the company, participate on a
panel on "Career paths in industry for young researchers," and
discuss your individual concerns over a catered lunch.<br>

Please note that seating is limited to 16 for the workshop and
group work and 21 for "Career paths in industry for young
researchers". If space is filled, a waiting list will be
created. Participation in the workshop and group work will be
confirmed on 1 June and in the "Career paths in industry for
