Questions for journal club this week (25 October).

"Observation of competitive double-gamma nuclear decay", C. Walz et al.
Nature 256, 15543 (2015)

1. What defines 'competitive' double-gamma decay?
2. What is the significance of the |E1-E2| < 300(250) keV condition
imposed on the analysis of the 72(144) degree detector groups?
3. Does a time difference of ~0.8 ns between two Compton-scattered gammas
seem reasonable from the description of the apparatus? (hint: grab an
envelope)
4. Does the contribution to the 662 keV peak area from the weak
[11/2-,1/2+,3/2+] cascade vary between the 72/144 degree detector groups?
5. The authors do not discuss implications for measuring the nuclear
electric polarizability and magnetic susceptibility. Are these
interesting?
