Hi all,
for next week's journal club I found a relatively straightforward paper about mass measurements:
First Direct Measurements of Superheavy-Element Mass Numbers
https://doi-org.ezproxy.library.ubc.ca/10.1103/PhysRevLett.121.222501

To understand the motivation this gives a good overview of how superheavy element A and Z are usually determined and and how far those determinations can be trusted:
https://doi.org/10.1051/epjconf/201613106002

Some questions to ponder:
- How are SHE masses usually determined?
- What are the jobs of BGS and FIONA in this?
- How (well) does FIONA separate masses?
- How do they ensure the alpha chain is real (one decay chain, not random coincidence)?
- Are two events enough?

Cheers,
Lars
