Hi everyone,

after the excursion into astrophysics last week, we'll return to good
old nuclear structure in next week's journal club. We'll be discussing
the article "Single-neutron knockout from ^20 C and the structure of ^19
C"
And if the thought of discussing a fascinating if slightly technical
experimental paper isn't enough for you, there will also be snacks, as
usual provided by our loving and beloved GAPS.

Questions:
What is the motivation given for studying drip-line nuclei in general
and ¹⁹C in particular?
How is the relative energy between neutron and fragment E_rel obtained?
Which detectors are used for that?
What background contributions are taken into account?
How are spin and parity of the observed states assigned?
What explanation is given for the theoretical calculations predicting
the states in the wrong order?

Also, for people unfamiliar with the topic, looking up the answers to
the following questions might help understanding:

What is a halo nucleus?
What is eikonal reaction theory?
What are spectroscopic factors?

Cheers,
Matthias
