Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce that registration is open for the upcoming TRIUMF Summer Institute (TSI 2020) on Quantum Computing and Machine Learning for Science and Technology, to be held at TRIUMF in Vancouver, BC, Canada from August 3rd to August 14th 2020. The school is organized by TRIUMF, Germany's Helmholtz Association, Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria.

Please bring this opportunity to the attention of graduate students, as well as senior undergraduates and post-doctoral researchers interested in this area.

The school is aimed at equipping graduate students in quantitative disciplines with applicable skills in machine learning and introducing them to the possibilities in quantum computing and quantum machine learning.

Students will experience an overview of gate model quantum computing, a survey of classical machine learning topics including deep learning, and explore what is being done in the early stages of quantum machine learning research. The students will also become familiar with alternative quantum computing models and modern approaches to quantum computing implementations. TSI 2020 emphasizes a hands-on approach, with large blocks of time dedicated to tutorials. The school will end with a two-day hackathon where students will showcase their knowledge applied to a practical problem.

Registration instructions and additional information can be found on our event webpage: https://tsi.triumf.ca/2020/registration.html

Applications for TSI 2020 will be accepted from March 9 until April 19th. Successful applicants will be informed and invited to complete registration by April 24.

For further information, including a preliminary program and speakers, please visit: https://meetings.triumf.ca/indico/event/109/overview.

*NOTICE*: As the school will be in August, we are hopeful that the school will go ahead even in light of the current spread of COVID-19. Nevertheless, we are following government guidelines and are closely monitoring the situation. We will issue updates as they become available.

Best regards,

The TSI2020 organizing committee:
