Dear TRIUMF Friends and Colleagues, Members of the Community,

We are reaching out to you to provide an update and invitation to this year's TRIUMF Science Week (Aug 17-21 2020).

Every year TRIUMF Science Week is an opportunity for the users and community of the laboratory to come together to hear updates and progress reports as well as discuss new ideas. As mentioned already in our initial announcement in March, this year we are organizing Science Week in the context of developing a long-range, 20-year vision for TRIUMF.

Science Week will be the kick-off event for the development of the 20-year vision for the laboratory and its community. The process will include opportunities to develop and present proposals of new ideas during Science Week and subsequent townhall meetings, topical workshops and other consultation with the community. We currently plan to complete the process in the summer of 2021 and by then have a 20-year vision to present to the TRIUMF community, the TRIUMF Board and stakeholders.

The 2020 TRIUMF Science Week is set for Aug 17-21 2020, and due to uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 situation, we are planning to hold the meeting online.

As always, there will be time reserved for the TRIUMF User Group Annual General Meeting. The remaining time will be devoted to present and discuss ideas for the 20-year vision for TRIUMF in the fields of Accelerator Science, Data Science, Life Sciences, Nuclear Science, Particle Physics, Quantum Materials, and Quantum Technologies. Science Week will also allow to connect to national and international science planning exercises, such as the Canadian Sub-Atomic Physics (SAP) Long Range Planning process, the nuclear and particle physics strategic planning processes in the US (NSAC, SNOMASS) and in Europe (NUPECC, CERN European Strategy Group (ESG)) and similar processes in other fields.

A special emphasis of the 2020 Science Week will be given to enable cross- and inter-disciplinary discussion throughout the TRIUMF science program. We hope to bring together many members of the TRIUMF community and have fruitful and innovative ideas and discussions as the starting point of the TRIUMF 20-year vision process.

If you want to contribute, please reach out to any of the conveners for the Science Week program:
Rick Baartman, Beatrice Franke, Tobias Junginger, Kenji Kojima, David Morrissey, Caterina Ramogida, Chris Ruiz, Monika Stachura, Oliver Stelzer-Chilton

We will follow up soon with further information on the program and logistics.
