> Dear All,
>
> We would like to announce that Prof. Peter Mättig (Bergische Universität Wuppertal) is visiting TRIUMF at the end of July. Working at experiments at DESY, CERN and Fermilab during the last 30 years, Prof. Peter Mättig made significant contributions to the experimental exploration of the Standard Model.
>
> Prof. Peter Mättig will give three lectures on the experimental methods used at the LHC and Tevatron. Results are presented on QCD and electroweak processes, as well as on the study of properties of the top quark. The lectures are intended for senior graduate students and young postdocs but they are open to anyone who is interested in the subject.
>
> They are scheduled as follows:
>
> July 20, 14:00 (1.5h) AAPS Boardroom
> July 22, 14:00 (1.5h) AAPS Boardroom
> July 24, 14:00 (1.5h) AAPS Boardroom
>
> Please, do not hesitate to contact us if you had any question.
>
> Best wishes.

> BIOGRAPHY
> Peter Mättig participated in the discovery of gluon jets at DESY’s e^+e^- collider PETRA and became an expert on the structure of quark and gluon jets in the following years. At CERN’s LEP collider he contributed to the first measurement of the Z^0 mass and width before analysing jets to measure the electroweak quark couplings. At Fermilab’s Tevatron he focussed on properties of the Top Quark. During the last decade he more and more combined the studies of Standard Model processes with the search for Physics beyond the Standard Model – especially in relation to top quark production. Since 2001 Peter is member of the ATLAS experiment at CERN, where his group was also strongly involved in building the pixel detector and is currently pursuing R&D for a more performant pixel detector for the ATLAS upgrade in the 2020s. Furthermore he and his group runs a Tier – 2 center and is developing Grid tools. Peter Mättig worked as senior scientist for DESY, IPP Canada, Bonn and the Weizmann Institute of Israel before becoming a full professor at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal. He assumed major responsibilities in experiments and was spokesperson for the whole German particle physics as well as chair of large consortia of German universities and research institutes.
