Dear Grad Students and Postdocs,

Have you ever wondered what data science and machine learning is all
about? Do you like pizza? If you answered yes to either, come to the
seminar that will be given by our very own Travis Martin *WEDNESDAY
(March 25) 12:00-13:00 in the Auditorium*. Make sure to signup on the
doodle poll below to make sure you get pizza; order goes in Tuesday 11:00!

We hope to see you there!

Your SGSPD Commitee.

Speaker: Travis Martin
Title: An introduction to data science and machine learning for physicists
Abstract: Data science is effectively practical statistics - the new
buzz word for applying statistics principles to real world data. The job
market for data scientists has been growing faster than academia can
produce them, and a huge portion of data scientists took a degree in
physics. This talk will give a brief overview of data science as a
process, and discuss some basics about machine learning in a very
physics-friendly way."
