GAPS Event: Accelerators in Medicine this Thursday

Hi All,
We would like to invite you to our March event "Accelerators in Medicine",
held this *Thursday, March 17 at 12:00* in the MOB auditorium.

Nick Zacchia and Milena Čolović will each give 20 minute presentations on
how accelerators are used in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

1st speaker: Nick Zacchia
Talk Title: *Isotopes on the Brain *
Abstract: The nuclear medicine division at TRIUMF tries to leverage our
understanding of atomic and nuclear processes to help diagnose and treat
real diseases in real patients every day. Nick Zacchia will discuss the
benefits and challenges of producing medical isotopes in a liquid target;
essentially a nuclear pressure cooker.

2nd speaker: Milena Čolović
Talk Title: *Oxidative stress imaging in breast cancers*
Abstract:  Milena's project is part of a collaboration between TRIUMF's
Life Sciences Division and the BC Cancer Agency*.*  The oxidative stress
imaging project is based around testing in house (i.e. at TRIUMF) developed
radiopharmaceuticals which specifically targets a cystine/glutamate
transporter, the system xc-, in *in vitro *and *in vivo *settings.
