Hi everyone,

As announced last week, the annual GAPS Three Minute Thesis Competition is coming up! It will be held on Tuesday November 27th at 12 pm in the MOB auditorium.

What is this?
In three minutes or less, using only one slide, participants will present their research to a scientifically literate non-specialist audience: your fellow GAPS members, plus three judges.

Why participate?
So many reasons! It’s a chance to get reacquainted with the most crucial and interesting parts of your own research. It’s great practice for interviews. It’s an excellent opportunity to work on your public-speaking skills. It looks good on your CV. Oh, and there will be prizes: $100 each for winners of the “students” and “postdocs” category, and $50 for our People’s Choice winner (who will be chosen by the audience).

Do I have to present on my thesis?
Not at all! You can present on any aspect of your original research, thesis-related or not.

Interested? Please respond to this email with:

1. Your name
2. The name of your supervisor (so we can avoid conflicts of interest in
our selection of judges)
3. Whether you’re a graduate student, undergraduate student or postdoc
4. The title of your talk (if you have one already - but this isn't necessary)

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up! The deadline to sign up is November 20th.

- Your GAPS
