Title: The HERMES Recoil Detector

Abstract: The analysis of hard exclusive lepton scattering reactions, such as Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS), has led to the development of Generalised Parton Distributions (GPDs). GPDs provide a unified framework for previously separate objects like parton distributions and form factors and offer a possibility to access the orbital angular momentum of quarks in the nucleon.

The HERMES experiment at DESY is currently planning an upgrade with a Recoil Detector that will transform the experiment from a forward spectrometer to an (almost) 4 pi setup. The Recoil Detector consists of a combination of silicon strip detectors inside the beam vacuum, a scintillating fibre
tracker in a 1 Tesla solenoidal field and a photon detector. This detector upgrade will significantly improve both the statistics and the systematics of exclusive measurements at HERMES.

This talk will start with a basic introduction to GPDs, present existing results on DVCS from HERMES, cover the HERMES Recoil Detector in detail and conclude with projections for DVCS measurements with the Recoil Detector.

Stimulants available at 13:45.
