Title: The Penning trap system of SHIPTRAP

Abstract: The ion trap facility SHIPTRAP is located behind SHIP, the separator for heavy ion reaction products. The aim of SHIPTRAP is to provide exotic isotopes and transuranium nuclides in the form of pure ion ensembles at rest or with low and well-defined energies. The concise manipulation of the ions motion in the very clean environment of a Penning trap will allow for high precision experiments in several areas such as laser spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and decay studies. The key components of SHIPTRAP, their working principle, and their current status will be discussed. The main focus will be kept on the Penning trap system itself and on mass measurements as some of the first intended experiments.
