Title: The 21Na(p,gamma)22Mg Reaction from E_{cm} = 200 to 800 keV in Explosive Stellar Events

Abstract: The long-lived radioactive nuclide 22Na (half-life=2.6y) is, in principle, an astronomical observable for furthering our understanding of the physics processes of oxygen-neon novae. Production and abundance yields of 22Na in these events are sensitive to the hitherto unknown 21Na(p,gamma)22Mg reaction rate. Within the 21Na + p compound system the first three resonances above the proton threshold, from 200 <= E_cm <= 470 keV, can contribute to this rate for oxygen-neon novae temperatures. Additionally, three resonances for 540 <= E_cm <= 800 keV will contribute to this reaction rate for X-ray burst events. Using a high intensity radioactive 21Na beam at the TRIUMF-ISAC facility, direct measurements of the strengths of these astrophysically important resonances have been made. This talk reports the results obtained for these strengths and their respective contributions to the 21Na(p,gamma)22Mg reaction rate and 22Na production in oxygen-neon novae.

Please note non-standard day and time!
Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
