Title: Innovative techniques for PET imaging - Progress and perspectives

Abstract: Positron Emission Tomography is becoming one of the most popular imaging technologies in the biomedical world. After a short survey of the main constraints and limitations of these devices, it will be presented how technologies and tools coming from nuclear and particle physics could be used for improving their critical features like resolution, efficiency and sensitivity. It will be illustrated by some typical examples of R&D around recent developments for small animal PET, state of the art human whole body for oncology and on-line PET for hadrontherapy.
