Title: The new view of nuclear structure with RI beam studies.

Abstract: The RI beams have ushered in a new era in nuclear science revealing new forms of nuclear structure like nuclear halo or skin. The emergence of such new forms of nuclear matter is asscociated with changes in single particle orbitals, which will be discussed. It will be shown that, as a result of changes in single particle orbitals, the nucleon magic numbers get modified in nuclei far from the stability line.

Experiments used for finding exotic structures and orbital changes will be presented. The discussion will focus on exotic structures in sd-shell neutron-rich nuclei, where anomalies exist and questions arise if the usual core+neutron halo model is applicable. On the proton-rich side, an interesting new finding of a two-proton halo in 17Ne, which also suggests a change in the ordering of orbitals in proton-rich nuclei will also be presented. The exotic structures also reflect in unusual excitation modes, some of which will be shown.

The studies on unstable nuclei are still at its infancy and a brief discussion on some future perspectives will also be mentioned.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
