Title: The Revolution in Nuclear Physics

Abstract: There is currently a revolution underway in nuclear physics. Its effects will go deep and wide, resolving old conundrums in the process. One of the main ideas is the central role of the model space. Interactions, operators, effective charges, spectroscopic factors, etc depend strongly on the model space used, either implicitly or explicitly, to do the calculations and, a priori, no particular model space is preferred. In particular, larger spaces are frequently not better but rather the model space should be matched to the problem. Implications for TRIUMF and the selling of nuclear physics are discussed.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
