Title:     Physics with ultra-cold atoms: an experimentalist's view

Abstract: This talk will provide an overview and history of experiments performed with quantum degenerate gases (of ultra-cold atoms) since the birth of this field ten years ago. Much of the early work followed cues from the classic experiments in low temperature physics; however, recently the field has begun venturing into more modern topics including strongly correlated systems. The primary emphasis will be on the discussion of new experimental techniques and the classes of experiments made possible by these developments.
