Title: A bright future for nuclear physics in Europe: new facilities and new funding

Abstract: Nuclear physics within Europe is undergoing considerable growth and development. Stimulated by an increasing appreciation of the benefits of collaboration, and supported by new funding from the European Commission, the community is coming together to develop new research activities and to fund new accelerator facilities and instruments. NuPECC (Nuclear Physics European Coordinating Committee) plays a key role in this, both by bringing the community together to identify priorities and by acting as a "bridge" to the European Commission. I will illustrate these new directions for research and the new facilities, indicating where there may be synergies and overlaps with the Canadian community's plans.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
