Title: Probing Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and Beyond

Abstract: The Standard Model of electroweak interactions was initially formulated 40 years ago, successfully predicting new phenomena and interactions to impressive precision. Its remaining prediction, the existence of the scalar Higgs boson, is supported by indirect evidence but has not yet been directly verified. Additionally, as our probes reach up to, and beyond, the TeV scale, there are indications that new physics beyond the Standard Model is coming into experimental reach. The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, expected to begin data taking in 2007, is built to both find the Higgs and whatever lies beyond. The reach of ATLAS for Higgs bosons and new physics, along with the progress in the preparations of ATLAS for data taking, are discussed.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
