Title: NSERC Research Partnerships Program "University - Industry Funding Opportunities"

Abstract: NSERC is Canada’s premier funding agency, supporting more than 10,000 researchers and 22,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the natural sciences and engineering (NSE) at institutions across the country. This “traditional” strategy aimed at securing Canada’s competitiveness in the global economy through the training of highly qualified people is strengthened by NSERC’s priority to realize the benefits of university research.

In 2006-07 NSERC will accelerate the translation of research results into commercially successful technologies by funding more than 1300 collaborations between academics and industrial partners. NSERC’s Research Partnerships Program enables companies to tap into the vast scientific expertise and infrastructure available at Canadian universities, while at the same time encouraging university researchers to address issues of interest to industry and see their activities as part of the discovery to innovation spectrum.

Recently, NSERC opened regional offices in Moncton, Winnipeg and Vancouver in order to better meet the needs of local stakeholders as well as facilitate communication between national headquarters in Ottawa and the regions.

The mandate of NSERC-Pacific and the various opportunities within the Research Partnerships Program will be discussed.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
