Title: EC-delayed fission in the lightest nuclei in the Pb region
Abstract: Beta-delayed (EC/b+, b-) fission is an extremely rare nuclear decay process in which the beta-decaying parent populates excited states in its daughter nuclide which afterwards fissions. This process allows to study fission properties of nuclei which do not decay via spontaneous fission at all. It is believed that in the extremely neutron-rich nuclei this process is crucial for the determination of the r-process path, fission re-cycling and production of the heaviest elements. However, such exotic species might never be produced in the laboratory, that is why alternative approaches are necessary to study the beta-delayed fission.
In the presentation, the results of the recent experiments at the velocity filter SHIP (GSI, Darmstadt) will be presented, in which ECDF was observed for the first time in a number of the neutron-deficient nuclides in the Pb region.
I will also discuss the possible continuation of these studies at ISOLDE and TRIUMF.
Stimulants will be available 15 minutes before the talk.
