Title: A Beta Beam facility for neutrino production

Abstract: For some years now, there has been substantial effort on R&D towards a Neutrino Factory based on a muon storage ring. More recently, studies have been initiated on the innovative concept of the "Beta Beam" facility, which is based on a race track storage ring circulating a beta unstable ion, such as 6He or 18Ne. The motivation for these facilities is to study the phenomenon of neutrino oscillations. The Beta Beam design activity is presently a European effort, coordinated under the Eurisol task. The group is centred at CERN and involves a number of European laboratories and universities and associated laboratories like TRIUMF. A possible scenario, based on the CERN infrastructure, of a Beta Beam facility will be described. One particular subject, the heat deposition from the decaying ions in superconducting magnets of the beta beam decay ring, work done here at TRIUMF, will be presented in more detail.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
