Title: Breakup and the Spectroscopy of Continuum States

Abstract: The continuum is important for many aspects of nuclear structure, both for resonances and for the non-resonant continuum in between. Capture reactions depend on the spectroscopy of both kinds of continuum states. This talk looks at the mechanisms for the population of these continua in breakup reactions. Resonances in the continuum of three-body systems have a richer structure, according to whether the various pairwise subsystems are near or far from their own resonances. Spatial and energy correlations in three-body continua are illustrated.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
