Location: Auditorium

Speaker: Tim Cooper (University College of the Fraser Valley)

Title: Global Warming

Abstract: This talk is aimed at a general audience. Carbon dioxide and a few other gasses, trap the heat of the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, warming the surface of the planet. Carbon dioxide has increased from 280 ppm to 380 ppm, due mostly to humans burning fossil fuels. The effect of this on climate has been significant, and the effect in the future will be dramatic. The mainstream science (with the numbers) will be presented here. Shown too are the effects we are currently seeing and with predictions for what the world look like to children that are only just now being born should our government(s) not change direction dramatically and soon. Due to a well funded campaign to sow uncertainty about the science, many people are skeptical of the science. Please bring your favourite arguments to throw at the speaker after the talk! The speaker is part of a lobby/education group, www.cutcarbonnow.com, and is a very concerned parent.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
