Title: Beam Delivery and Machine-Detector Interface R&D for the International Linear Collider

Abstract: The International Linear Collider (ILC) is a proposed electron-positron collider facility, with detailed design and R&D underway. It is a necessary counterpart to the LHC proton-proton collider, set to begin operations next year. The ILC and LHC will explore in detail the Electroweak Unification energy scale, and may elucidate the nature of Dark Matter and provide clues to the nature of Dark Energy. If Supersymmetry exists, these machines will reveal a doubling of the known particles and a source of Dark Matter. The ILC would operate initially at center-of-mass energies up to 500 GeV and with a luminosity 1000x greater than was achieved at LEP. I will discuss aspects of SLAC’s R&D for this project for the Beam Delivery System and Machine-Detector Interface.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk. The speaker is a candidate for head of the TRIUMF engineering division.
