Date/Time: Thu 2007-11-22 at 15:30

Location: Auditorium

Speaker: John Worden (LIGO Hanford Observatory)

Title: The LIGO Vacuum Systems

Abstract: The LIGO vacuum systems are installed at two widely separated sites, near Hanford, WA and Livingston, LA. The vacuum system provides a quiet, clean environment for the sensitive interferometer components and a low loss optical path for the light beams. Two subsystems make up the vacuum system: the Beam Tube, which provides a light path between the vertex and end stations, and the Vacuum Equipment, which houses mirrors and other detector components within the buildings.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk. The speaker is a candidate for head of the TRIUMF engineering division.
