Title: Rutherford's Path to the Nobel Prize
Abstract: 2008 marks the centennial of Ernest Rutherford's Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the first for research carried out in Canada. Rutherford and Canada were good for each other but this association isn't well known. John Campbell, author of Rutherford Scientist Supreme and www.rutherford.org.nz, will concentrate on the Canadian period and its aftermath, together with various subsequent events such as the beginning of accelerators and why one of the best ever physicists never received a Nobel Prize in Physics.
Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
