Title: Nature of Nuclear Excitations from Gamma-Ray-Spectroscopy

Abstract: A sub-set of collective - or in some cases barely collective - excitations of nuclei will be discussed, such as proton-neutron symmetric and mixed-symmetric phonon excitations in near-spherical nuclei. Examples of gamma-spectroscopic methods, involving mostly the YRAST-Ball Clover array at Yale's Wright Nuclear Structure Laboratory will be introduced. As such, the Clover array has been used for determining multipolarities of gamma-ray decays, but also in different configurations for g factor and lifetime measurements. Another part of the talk will briefly introduce a new, ongoing collaborative effort to obtain detailed nuclear structure information on candidate-nuclei for neutrino-less double-beta decay. First experimental results on the (Pygmy) electric dipole resonance in 76Se from real photon-scattering will be shown.

Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
