Title: A new era for gamma-ray spectroscopy with fast exotic beams at the NSCL
Abstract: The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) on the campus of Michigan State University is a world leader in nuclear structure research utilizing fast (v/c ~ 40%) and exotic radioactive ion beams produced through projectile fragmentation. With the recently commissioned 192 element CAEsium-iodide ARray (CAESAR), previously unexplored regions of the nuclear chart are now accessible for experimental study through gamma-ray spectroscopy following intermediate energy reactions. Closer to stability, CAESAR will play a significant role performing high-statistics measurements aimed at constraining theoretical descriptions of light nuclei that are based onab-initioapproaches. In this presentation, recent results investigating the structure of light p-shell nuclei, the successful installation of CAESAR, and future plans for this device will be described.
Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
