Title:     General Fusion's Acoustic Magnetized Target Fusion

Abstract: Founded in 2002, General Fusion is applying modern ideas and technology to a fusion concept called Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF).  First proposed in the 1970s, it was praised for its potential as a practical, economical route to fusion, however, it turned out to be impossible to implement with the technology of the day.  General Fusion realized that these restrictions no longer applied, and that using modern technology and some innovative modifications, MTF could be developed quickly to net energy gain scale experiments on a fraction of the budgets of the major global fusion initiatives.  Moreover, the potential economic and practical benefits recognized decades ago still apply, such that if the technology can be successfully demonstrated, MTF commercialization could be realized by the end of the decade.

Dr. Michel Laberge and CEO Doug Richardson will present the scientific basis and historical development of Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) and for General Fusion's Acoustic Magnetized Target Fusion concept in particular.  They will also present an overview General Fusion's development program, a summary of results to date and activities planned for 2012.

General Fusion is working in collaboration with universities and national laboratories across North America and Europe, including Los Alamos National Labs and the FOM Institute for Plasma Physics.
