Title: The origin of nuclear (not nucleon) spin

Abstract: Atomic nuclei with an even number of protons and neutrons always have J = 0
ground states. Textbooks attribute this to the pairing interaction; but
numerical simulations with randomly chosen interactions show that, contrary
to simple statistical expectations, the majority of _all_ interactions also
have J = 0 ground states. As part of understanding this phenomenon, I
consider an illustrative analogy of random matrices with polyhedra
symmetries, and demonstrate a suprising universality among J-projected widths
for many-body systems.
