Title: Nucleus view from high momentum nucleons and Tensor Forces

Abstract: Recent ab-initio type calculations show that the biding of nuclei are mostly from pion exchanges. The pion exchange interactions include central forces and tensor forces in same weight. In fact, the ab-initio type calculations shows that the tensor forces provide large binding energies in light nuclei. Those calculations also show that the strong bindings are due to the high momentum
nucleons in nuclei. In contrast, successful nuclear models such as shell model and mean field model,
however, do not treat the tensor forces explicitly but treat them as perturbation. Also no high momentum components of nucleon above Fermi momentum are considered. Recently we have started to see the importance of the high-momentum nucleon in the ground state of 16O nuclei from the (p,d) reaction studies with a large momentum transfer that is factor of 2 larger than the Fermi momentum. A clear
evidence of the high-momentum nucleon component has been observed. Other related studies of importance of high-momentum nucleons are under progress. The talk will present examples which present the importance of tensor forces in nuclei and then present the recent studies of high momentum nucleons in ground state of nuclei.
