Title:     Neutrinoless Double beta Decay and Nuclear Structure

Abstract: Neutrinoless double beta decay, if detected, will ascertain the Majorana nature of the neutrinos, an important missing piece of the Standard Model.  Nevertheless, the extraction of the neutrino masses from the measured lifetime requires the knowledge of the nuclear matrix elements (NME) of the process. I will review the  "state of the art"  of  the calculated NME's, putting special emphasis in  these  properties of the wave functions of the initial and final nuclei to which the NME's are more sensible.  Recent developments concerning the renormalisation of the  neutrinoless double beta transition operator will be discussed as well.
