Title:     Isotopes, ion traps and Nuclear Physics

Abstract: Low energy Nuclear Physics is entering a new area of precision, both in experiment and theory. Theoretical progress today allows detailed predictions, and is able to reach isotopes with extreme proton-to-neutron ratios, 'pressure-testing' the calculations. For experiments, access to more short-lived isotopes becomes possible, and tests of theoretical predictions are carried out and new phenomena are discovered. One major development that enabled a leap in precision and reach was the use of ion traps. In this talk I will introduce the modern questions in Nuclear Physics, from a low energy point of view, and give examples of how these are addressed using  isotopes and ion traps at TRIUMF.
