Title: High-efficiency superconducting magnet R&D for the future high intensity accelerators at KEK

Abstract: In order to promote future high intensity accelerator proposals in KEK, such as J-PARC upgrades, a new R&D program for high-efficiency superconducting magnet using advanced superconducting technologies is launched at KEK cryogenics science center. The goal of this program is to develop fundamental technologies for ultra-efficient superconducting accelerator magnets, which have energy efficiency 10 times better on DC operation and 2 times better on 25 Hz rapid cycle operation comparing to conventional normal conducting magnets, without increasing the overall construction costs of the accelerator. Recent advancement of superconducting transmission line technology pave the way to achieve very efficient high current transmission line that can accommodate not only DC mode but also AC operation up to 60 Hz. In this project, we will achieve the above development target by applying the transmission line technologies to iron based accelerator magnets. The presentation briefly introduced future KEK high intercity accelerator proposals and requirements to the magnets. The possible technologies that can be applied to the magnets are then discussed and then the R&D plan will be presented.
