Title: Quantum Monte Carlo and local chiral forces: from light- to medium-mass nuclei

Abstract: The prediction of nuclei properties and the emergence of nuclear structure from first principles is a formidable task. An important question is whether it is possible to describe nuclei and their global properties from microscopic nuclear Hamiltonians constructed to reproduce few-body observables. Despite many efforts, a (convincing) definitive answer is not yet available. Moreover, can these nuclear Hamiltonians predict the equation of state of neutron matter, and consequently neutron stars? In this talk, I will discuss the problem by presenting new Quantum Monte Carlo results for light- and medium-mass nuclei, obtained by employing the local formulation of chiral effective field theory interactions.
