Title: Early Science Results with CHIME/FRB

Abstract: Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are millisecond duration, extragalactic radio emissions, which are as yet poorly understood, partially because only a few dozen have been detected. The paucity of detections and incomplete localization information complicates our understanding of FRBs and their origins. The CHIME/Fast Radio Burst Project (CHIME/FRB) mitigates this problem by using the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) located at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory in British Columbia to search for FRBs continuously. CHIME is a novel transit telescope coupled to a powerful correlator, which allows it to observe the entire Northern sky in its frequency range (400-800 MHz) each day. Pre-commissioning calculations predicted CHIME/FRB could detect a few to several dozen FRBs per day. Here, we present the first 13 FRB detections from CHIME/FRB, including a second repeating FRB and for the first time, the detection of FRBs at frequencies as low as 400 MHz.
