Title: Current Status and Prospects for the MATHUSLA dedicated Long-Lived Particle detector at the HL-LHC.
Abstract: MATHUSLA is a proposed large-scale, simply instrument external dedicated long-lived particle (LLP) detector for the HL-LHC. I will review the strong physics motivations for LLP signals in general and the MATHUSLA detector in particular, which include hidden sector theories that could solve the hierarchy problem or other fundamental mysteries of the Standard Model, and their possible connection to exciting cosmological and astrophysical signatures. I then discuss the status and latest progress of the MATHUSLA collaboration, including updates on detector design, geometry, and engineering studies, analyzing data from the MATHUSLA test stand, prospects for coordinated physics studies with the LHC main detector, and the MATHUSLA cosmic ray physics program. The Canadian high energy experimental community is uniquely well positioned to assume a leadership role in the MATHUSLA program, and I will outline how TRIUMF could become a global center for exploring the lifetime frontier in the HL-LHC era.
