Title:     Material radiation resistance studies with parasitic irradiations at TRIUMF

Abstract: The study of material degradation under irradiation is of increasing interest due to the steady demand for high-performance materials in increasing radiation fields in, both, new generation nuclear plants (fission and fusion) and high-power particle accelerator facilities. This seminar will review the basic concepts of how radiation affects materials, what new materials have been proposed to alleviate these issues, and why and how TRIUMF can contribute significantly to that field of research.

Ferran is a graduate research assistant in the Accelerator Division targets & ion sources department. He came to TRIUMF after working at CERN as a materials engineer trainee. He is now a graduate student at the University of Victoria working under the supervision of A. Gottberg and T. Junginger, tackling material challenges in accelerator targets under high-intensity particle irradiation.
