Dear TRIUMF Users,

We would like to remind you of a couple of recent improvements to our communications with users:

1. New weekly beam-delivery-updates mailing list

This mailing list is open to all users interested in keep up to date with ongoing operations and developments in the beam delivery systems at TRIUMF. It covers all experimental program beams at the lab, from proton beams in the meson hall, electron beams with the e-linac, and both stable and radioactive isotope beams at ISAC and ARIEL. It also will include beam schedule updates. The content derives from the weekly report from TRIUMF beam delivery operations to senior management.

The 2nd weekly update (for Week 43) will be sent out today. It is is also copied here below.

From now on, if you would like to continue receiving the weekly updates, please register to the mailing list<http://lists.triumf.ca/mailman/listinfo/beam-delivery-updates> at http://lists.triumf.ca/mailman/listinfo/beam-delivery-updates.

The weekly update is a work in progress, and comments and suggestions are welcome.

2. Improved website for Users

The “For Scientific Visitors” website collates all the information needed by users to plan and execute their visits to, and experiments at, TRIUMF. It has been updated to include easy access to the beam schedule, User Liaison contacts, beam-delivery-updates list, and the User Services Newsletters.

Newly included is the “Guide for Experimenters wiki<https://www.triumf.info/wiki/exp-prog/index.php/Main_Page>”. From the wiki: "The purpose of this wiki is to provide all the necessary information to allow a user to propose, plan, and run an experiment at TRIUMF<http://www.triumf.ca/>. It is managed by the Beam Delivery group within the Accelerator Division and is meant to complement the information about TRIUMF's research program<http://www.triumf.ca/research> available on the lab's web site. This wiki is a work in progress. Please forward all comments, queries, and suggestions to delivery at triumf.ca<mailto:delivery at triumf.ca>. "

TRIUMF Beam Delivery Report - Week 43: October 21-27, 2019

Users having any questions or concerns are requested to contact their respective User Liaisons<https://www.triumf.ca/user-liaisons> or contact delivery at triumf.ca<mailto:delivery at triumf.ca>

520 MeV Beam Delivery

  *   Cyclotron Availability: 99.5%
  *   Accumulated Cyclotron Availability for 2019: 93.9%
  * Weekly beam trips (with 2A online): 20
  *   Cyclotron Downtime: 1.1hrs
  * Excellent week for production. Delivered to 1A/2A3/2C4 without any major unplanned interruptions.
  * 1A vacuum excursions are still present during M20 accesses. The cyclotron beam current was reduced during those procedures to prevent cyclotron trips (on T2 protect).
     * 1A tuning improvements later in the week appear to have mitigated the issue. Vacuum group are planning to add additional pumping in the near future.

ISAC Beam Delivery

  *   SIB downtime – 0.2 hrs
  * OLIS delivered Argon/Krypton to IRIS until Tuesday, then Boron-11 to DRAGON from MCIS.
  *   RIB downtime – 2.9 hrs (controls PLC 6)
  * Lithium-8 delivery to bNMR and bNQR most of the week followed by Terbium-155 to Implantation Station which started early this morning.
  * Progress was made with resolving extraction electrode short at TM4.

E-LINAC

  *   EGUN HV cable upgrades
  * EGUN RF amplifier tests with beam were done at EGUN:BIAS=150kV
  * EACA RF run at 20MV

Schedule Updates

  * All beam delivery operations are currently on schedule<https://mis.triumf.ca/schedule/view>.
  * Tuesday October 29th DAY and EVE shifts are scheduled for cyclotron beam development.
  * In addition, TM4 will start operation in the West ISAC target station with a uranium-carbide target and surface/laser ion source.
  * Thus Wednesday October 30th OWL shift is scheduled for ISAC startup, with first beam for setup to experiments at 0830 that day.
