>From the Director
Dear colleagues,
After 20 years of service to TRIUMF, including nearly six years as the Associate Lab Director (ALD) - Physical Sciences Division, Jens Dilling will be departing the laboratory on July 31, 2021 to take on a new challenge as the Director of Institutional Strategic Planning at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
In his new role, Jens will guide the development of laboratory strategies, strategic investments, and annual planning, as well as manage the laboratory's discretionary investment portfolio. As the US Department of Energy's largest multiprogramme science and energy laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory is engaged in a wide range of activities related to addressing energy, environmental, and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.
With Jens' departure, Petr Navratil, Deputy ALD for the Physical Sciences Division, will step in to serve as Interim ALD beginning on August 1, 2021. Further details about recruitment for the vacant ALD position will be made in the weeks to come.
I want to close by thanking Jens for his exemplary service to TRIUMF over two decades. Since coming to TRIUMF as a graduate student in 1996, he has been an invaluable member of our community, making indelible impacts in the various leadership roles he held during his tenure. As an ALD, Jens played a critical role in helping shape and grow the Physical Sciences Division, helping position TRIUMF for an exciting and dynamic future. From my recent past, I also want to thank Jens for his support and commitment to partner facilities such as SNOLAB, where he provided great support to me, the Board and management through being the inaugural chair of the Science and Technical Review Committee.
I hope you will all join me in wishing Jens all the best as he embarks on a new adventure with this leadership role in the United States.
Safe travels, Jens!
Nigel Smith
