Hi GAPS members!
A quick reminder that GAPS hosts a 30-minute chat with the colloquium speaker after each Thursday TRIUMF colloquium. These take place in the MOB Cafeteria, starting directly after the colloquium. This is a great opportunity for informal chats with the speaker, related to their presentation or anything else you wish to discuss!
The first colloquium of the new year is today at 14:00 (GAPS chat will start at ~15:10). You can see the colloquium information below.

Title: Understanding the Proton with MUSE
Abstract: The MUon Scattering Experiment (MUSE), which takes place in the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) at the PiM1 beamline, aims to simultaneously perform elastic ep and p scattering in order to determine the proton charge radius. MUSE was originally motivated by the proton charge radius puzzle. However with the beamline and kinematics available to the experiment, MUSE has a broad physics reach. As the experiment has access to both positively and negatively charged leptons, a precise two photon exchange measurement can be performed for both electrons and muons in the 0.002 < Q2 < 0.08 GeV2 and 0.26 < e < 0.94 regime. The experiment has both a liquid hydrogen target and a carbon target, allowing for a variety of precise cross section measurements. Additionally with access to p in the beam it is also possible to measure absolute and relative pion-proton scattering cross sections to high precision with the MUSE detector. In this talk we will discuss the physics reach and the current status of MUSE and the projected uncertainties for the measurements that will be made. -- Remote Connection: https://ubc.zoom.us/j/67534410622?pwd=R28zPbaFEyHGSkDJDReuH1u7FDFk7U.1 Meeting ID: 675 3441 0622 Passcode: 651088
